The letter of competency provided by the employer of a contractor must include the following: the name of the person deemed competent, andthe name of the employer or company, andthe basis on which the employer or company has deemed the person competent, andthe time the person deemed competent has worked for the company, andthe time the person deemed competent has performed the skill, andthe name, position and original signature There are two evidence types that are acceptable for fulfilment of this requirement:
Option A: Completing the Whitehaven LOC Template: CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE LOC TEMPLATE All sections of the template must be completed.
Option B: Creating your own contractor company-specific LOC letterhead or form. The Letter of Competency must show the following as a minimum: - The EMPLOYEE NAME of the person/ worker who is deemed competent
- The POSITION or role of the person/ worker who is deemed competent
- The name of the employing CONTRACTOR COMPANY
- The time PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT with the employing contractor company
- The time period of EXPERIENCE IN THE TASKS TO BE PERFORMED (overall time performing the skill in the relevant field/industry)
- The BASIS ON WHICH THE EMPLOYEE IS DEEMED COMPETENT
- The MANAGER AUTHORISATION which would include the name, position and signature and date of the person writing the letter on behalf of the employer or company
Note: Where the the position/role/occupation on on the LOC is listed as "inexperienced mine worker/operator". The company must state, "We deem him/her competent to perform inexperienced operator duties and will provide the necessary training to perform the role safely".
Note: Company Directors/Owners may sign their own letters of competency
