Training.Induction.Letter of Competency








There are two evidence types that are acceptable for fulfilment of this requirement:


Option A: Completing the Whitehaven LOC Template: Click to download a copy of the Whitehaven Letter of Competency Template - All sections of the template must be completed


or;


Option B: Creating your own contractor company-specific LOC letterhead or form.

The Letter of Competency must show the following as a minimum:

  • The EMPLOYEE NAME of the person/ worker who is deemed competent
  • The POSITION or role of the person/ worker who is deemed competent
  • The name of the employing CONTRACTOR COMPANY
  • The time PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT with the employing contractor company
  • The time period of EXPERIENCE IN THE TASKS TO BE PERFORMED (overall time performing the skill in the relevant field/industry)
  • The BASIS ON WHICH THE EMPLOYEE IS DEEMED COMPETENT
  • The MANAGER AUTHORISATION which would include the name, position and signature and date of the person writing the letter on behalf of company


Note: Where the position/role/occupation on the LOC is listed as "inexperienced mine worker/operator". The company must state, "We deem him/her competent to perform inexperienced operator duties and will provide the necessary training to perform the role safely". 


Note: Company Directors/Owners may sign their own letters of competency

  • Date on letter or date of manager authorisation must be no older than 3 months prior to the date of data application submission
  • Issue Date = Date on letter or date of manager authorisation
  • Expiry Date =3 years from Issue date
